Sex Offender Enforcement Notice:

In July, 2002, the Iowa Legislature passed Iowa Code Section 692A.2A, a law restricting the residency of convicted sexual offenders to more than 2000 feet from real property comprising a public or non-public elementary or secondary school, or a child care facility.

The 2002 law, which was found to be unconstitutional by the United States District Court of the Southern District of Iowa, was appealed with the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth District. The Court of Appeals overturned the District Court verdict, which cancelled a temporary restraining order that had been enacted to prevent enforcement of the new law.

As of September 1, 2005, Iowa Code Section 692A.2A will be enforced. If you have any questions or concerns about the enforcement of the new law, please call the Jesup Police Department at 319-827-1919 or the Buchanan County Sheriffs Office at 1-319-334-2567.

The Jesup Police Department has published the below map. Areas marked in blue are within 2,000 feet of a School or Registered Child Care Facility, and are off limits to offenders. (However there are a few exception)
